Position Description

One Economy Corporation is a global nonprofit organization that uses innovative approaches to deliver the power of technology and information to low-income people, giving them valuable tools for building better lives.  We help bring broadband into the homes of low-income people, employ youth to train their community members to use technology effectively, and provide socially responsible media properties that offer a wealth of information on education, jobs, health care and other vital issues.  Our mission is to maximize the potential of technology to help low-income people improve their lives and enter the economic mainstream.  One Economy Corporation has 10 field offices throughout the U.S., and an international presence through One Global Economy. 
 
Responsibilities and Oversight:
 
We seek an experienced Systems Architect to consult, collaborate and lead in the development,  enhancement and optimization of our web systems architecture. 
 
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring our development team (around 10 FTEs) is working in the smartest, most effective way, using the most appropriate technologies and following best practices to deliver  fast, stable, scalable, bug-free and future-aware websites that work well together. Alongside the Director of Web Development and the CTO, you will play a key leadership role in determining and describing our technological direction, and will provide mentorship and oversight across the team.
 
Over the course of this position, we are looking to the systems architect to optimize our server architecture, assist in the operationalization of openID / single-sign / shared user profiles across our network, and enhance processes of content syndication across our websites.
 
 
Requirements:
 
The successful candidate will have a wealth of experience, a passion for problem solving, a love of web technology, a pragmatic easy-going approach and superb communication skills.
 
Essential
  • At least 10 years experience in IT systems architecture, planning and execution.
  • Strong knowledge of the web technology space:  platform stacks, web services, servers and dbs, system integration, middleware, protocols and methodologies.
  • Experience leading a team.
  • Great communication skills and a high comfort level with a collaborative work process and collegial working environment.
  • Proven ability to work in a fast paced environment; a positive, pragmatic and proactive attitude.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
 
Desirable skills
  • Maintenance of, or contribution to, a technology-focused blog.
  • You read Slashdot for fun. You play with google’s apis for enjoyment, at the weekend.

 
Location:
This position will be located in our Portland, OR office.

 
Term:
The position is available for 6 months.  Conversion to a regular position beyond the term is a possibility, subject to performance and funding.
