Environmental Science Associates (ESA) is looking for a Senior Field Archaeologist to join our team in our Northwest Region.

Who You Are

You are an experienced Senior Field Archaeologist with a minimum of 10 years of experience in leading and conducting archaeological surveys, testing, data recovery, analysis, and reporting in the Pacific Northwest.

You are Secretary of the Interior qualified in Archaeology, and able to hold Bureau of Reclamation and Bureau of Land Management ARPA permits for the Columbia Basin region.

You hold a master's degree or higher in archaeology/anthropology or related field.

You have a demonstrated ability to use app-based software for field recordation and mapping.

You enjoy fieldwork, can walk long distances carrying a backpack; and lift at least 40 pounds.

You are confident working outside, in remote and rural settings, as well as in urban environments. Physical outdoor work may include, but may not be limited to, work in all types of weather, traversing uneven ground and sometimes steep terrain in forested environments, fields, arid lands, along stream banks, and in coastal/intertidal areas. Some night and/or weekend work may be required.

What You Will Do

As a Senior Field Archaeologist, you will support field projects in Washington and Oregon as a variable part-time employee. You will lead and conduct archaeological surveys, testing, data recovery, analysis, and reporting.

Successful candidates will fulfill the following duties:

  • Leading archaeological survey teams of various sizes;
  • Effectively communicate with project personnel;
  • Write and maintain written daily surveys, monitoring, recordation, and cataloging logs, including utilizing electronic data collection tools and GIS mapping applications.

ESA has established multiple pay ranges tailored to the economic factors in the geographies in which ESA staff reside. For this position, the range is $26.26 - $38.08 per hour based on our anticipated hiring locations as noted in the above job details. Actual compensation is also determined by several factors including but not limited to an individual's related experience, education, skills, and the city in which the applicant lives.
